In this role, you’ll help us improve code structure and architecture while leading team project planning to maximise efficiency and reliability across our production systems.</p><p>Get to know our <a target="_blank" class="ng-star-inserted" href="https://careers.deliveroo.co.uk/software-engineering-at-deliveroo/">Engineering</a> team — what drives us, how we work, and what you can expect.<br></p><h3><strong>What You’ll Be Doing</strong></h3><p>Here’s what your day-to-day might look like:</p><ul><li><p><strong>Drive Technical Excellence:</strong> Improve code structure and architecture across your team’s remit, performing high-impact code reviews to ensure quality and scalability.</p></li><li><p><strong>Lead Project Planning:</strong> Foresee dependencies and risks, partnering closely with Product and Design to ensure smooth delivery of complex features.</p></li><li><p><strong>Optimise Operations:</strong> Simplify the maintenance and operation of production systems, promoting visibility, health, and operational readiness.</p></li><li><p><strong>Collaborate &amp; Influence:</strong> Build relationships across engineering teams to identify collaboration opportunities and influence the wider technical roadmap.</p></li><li><p><strong>Mentor &amp; Hire:</strong> Support the personal growth of your colleagues through technical guidance and take an active role in conducting engineering interviews to scale our team.</p></li></ul><h3>What You’ll Need to Thrive</h3><p>Our ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in some of these areas and curiosity to grow in others:</p><ul><li><p><strong>Strong Engineering Principles:</strong> Deep pride in writing readable, well-designed, and well-tested software.</p></li><li><p><strong>Backend Expertise:</strong> Significant experience building web-based applications (we use Go, Ruby/Rails, Python, Scala, and Rust).</p></li><li><p><strong>Data Proficiency:</strong> Practical experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and "NoSQL" backends like Redis, DynamoDB, or ElasticSearch.</p></li><li><p><strong>Systems at Scale:</strong> Proven ability to manage web architecture at scale (handling 20krpm and above).</p></li><li><p><strong>Technical Leadership:</strong> Experience breaking down large pieces of work and guiding implementation choices for a team of engineers.</p></li></ul><h3>Why Join Us?</h3><p>At Deliveroo, you’ll do work that matters—solving real-world problems in a three-sided marketplace that’s constantly evolving.
