Terms of Service

By accessing or using The Career Machine (the "Platform") at https://www.thecareermachine.com you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, please do not use the Platform. These Terms apply to all visitors, registered users, employers, and any other party accessing the Platform. We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be announced by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, by an in-app notice or email to registered users.

The Career Machine is a free career intelligence and opportunity platform. Features include: • Job discovery aggregated from public sources • Employability scoring and skill gap analysis • AI-assisted career coaching, resume analysis, and interview preparation • Salary intelligence, market data, and career guides • Empowerment hubs for underserved communities • Community features (discussions, mentors, scam alerts) • Employer portal for job postings The Platform is provided "as is" and evolves continuously. Features may be added, changed, or removed without notice.

The Platform is completely free for job seekers. • We do not charge job seekers to browse jobs, save applications, use AI coaching, or access any core feature. • We do not require credit card details. • We do not run subscription tiers, "premium" gates, or paywalls for individual users. Employers may be offered optional paid services in the future. Any such services will always be clearly separated from the free candidate experience.

You must be at least 16 years old to create an account. If you are under 18, you should review these Terms with a parent or legal guardian. You are responsible for complying with the laws of your jurisdiction when using the Platform.

To use certain features you must create an account through Supabase Auth. When you do: • Provide accurate, current information. • Keep your credentials confidential. • You are responsible for all activity under your account. • Notify us immediately of any unauthorized access. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, engage in fraud, or attempt to harm other users, employers, or the Platform.

You agree not to: • Violate any law or third-party right through your use of the Platform. • Send spam, harass, or harm other users. • Impersonate any person or entity. • Scrape, crawl, or systematically extract data from the Platform without our written permission. • Attempt to reverse engineer scoring or AI systems. • Upload malicious files or code. • Interfere with the security or operation of the Platform. • Submit false or fabricated resume, work history, or scam-report information. • Post content that is illegal, obscene, discriminatory, threatening, or infringes intellectual property. We may remove content and suspend accounts that violate these rules.

You own the content you submit to the Platform, including your profile, resume text, applications, discussions, and community contributions ("User Content"). By submitting User Content you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to: • Store, process, and display it as part of providing the Platform. • Use aggregated, anonymized data to improve platform accuracy and public market intelligence. • Show your profile to you and, where applicable, to a public passport page you explicitly choose to publish. We will not: • Sell your personal career data to third-party data brokers. • Share your resume or profile with employers without your explicit action. • Use your private resume text to train third-party AI models. You can export or permanently delete your data at any time from Account Settings.

Some features use artificial intelligence (career coach, resume analysis, gap analysis, interview simulator, hub career plans, and various AI tools). By using these features you acknowledge: • AI outputs are informational. They are not legal, financial, medical, or professional employment advice. • AI can make mistakes. Verify important information from authoritative sources before relying on it. • We do not guarantee employment outcomes, salary increases, or interview success. • Personal identifiers (email, phone, addresses, LinkedIn/GitHub URLs) are automatically removed from your input before it is sent to AI providers. • AI usage may be temporarily throttled or unavailable during high demand.

Job listings on the Platform come from two sources: • External job boards and company career sites, aggregated for convenience. • Employers who post jobs directly through our Employer Portal. We do not verify every job listing. We do not employ candidates on behalf of any company. When you apply to a job, you are subject to the destination site's or employer's terms. If you believe a listing is fraudulent, please report it via our scam reporting tools.

Community discussions, experience reports, success stories, contributions, and scam reports are user-generated. We do not endorse or verify individual community contributions. Content may be moderated. Scam reports and success stories are reviewed before public listing. You are responsible for content you post. Do not disclose confidential company information, personally identify others without consent, or defame individuals or organizations.

The Platform integrates with third-party services (Supabase Auth, external job boards, AI providers, and data sources). Their terms and privacy policies apply when you interact with them. External links open in a new tab and are not under our control.

The Platform, its design, software, and original content are owned by The Career Machine and protected by intellectual property laws. Aggregated data from public sources (ESCO, O*NET, government portals, etc.) is used under applicable open data licenses. See our Data Sources page for attribution. You may not copy, modify, or redistribute the Platform's proprietary content without our written permission.

THE PLATFORM IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. We do not warrant that: • The Platform will always be available or error-free. • All job listings will be current, accurate, or legitimate. • AI outputs will be accurate or suitable for your situation. • Using the Platform will result in employment, offers, or specific salary outcomes. Career decisions are your responsibility.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, The Career Machine and its operators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Platform. Because the Platform is free for job seekers, our total liability to any user is limited to £100 (or local equivalent).

You may stop using the Platform at any time and delete your account from Account Settings. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms or the security or integrity of the Platform is threatened. Upon termination: • Your access to the Platform ends. • Your personal data is deleted in line with our Privacy Policy (typically within 30 days). • Anonymized, aggregate market statistics may be retained.

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute arising from these Terms or the Platform is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, unless a mandatory local consumer-protection law grants you jurisdiction elsewhere.
