Junior Software Developer - Python

Job Description WSP is seeking an innovative and motivated professional with experience in Python development, cloud technologies, and platforms such as Microsoft Azure and GitHub. In this role, you will be responsible for deploying, maintaining, and supporting Python-based solutions that contribute to engineering and mining projects. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing and supporting digital solutions that enhance project delivery, operational performance, and technical excellence across WSP's engineering and mining businesses. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with technical specialists, engineers, and project teams to deliver innovative solutions that create value for our clients and projects. Responsibilities - Develop and maintain Python-based tools, workflows, and applications that support mine water and hydrogeological projects. - Support cloud-based deployment and operation of digital solutions using Microsoft Azure. - Work closely with technical specialists to identify opportunities for digital innovation and process improvement. - Support the delivery of digital solutions that improve project efficiency, data quality, and decision-making for clients. Desirable - Understanding of hydrology, hydrogeology, mine water management, or water resources engineering concepts. - Exposure to geospatial and environmental datasets, including groundwater, surface water, climate, or monitoring data. - Experience supporting scientific, environmental, or engineering projects through data analytics, visualization, automation, or digital solution development. Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field. - Equivalent industry experience will also be considered. Key Requirements - 3-5+ years of experience in software development, Python programming, data analytics, or cloud-based application development. - Experience with Microsoft Azure and cloud deployment technologies. - Experience with GitHub, version control, and collaborative software development practices. - Experience developing and maintaining production-grade Python applications and data workflows. - Understanding of data visualization, automation, and reporting solutions. - Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills. - Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams including hydrogeologists, water engineers, environmental scientists, and mining specialists. - A proactive mindset with a passion for innovation, continuous improvement, and digital transformation.
